A Visit To The Opera
The new opera house in Oslo opened with prominent guests and firework last saturday. Sunday the building was finally open to the public. See pictures from Oslo Opera House here.
The Building
Oslo Opera House is situated on the shore of Oslo-Fiord, and was designed by the Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta. It is an impressive mix of white marble and glass rising from the Oslo Fjord.
Opening Night
The official opening of the theatre was saturday 12. april 2008. Royalty, a few foreign heads of state, government officials, local celebrities, and even some ordinary citizens, made their way across the red carpet to the opera building. The evening ended with a hughe firework around midnight.
Open To The Public
The opera was opened to the public on sunday, and the roof is constructed in such a way that people can walk up and enjoy the view.
Skateboarding?
According to the media, even skateboarders are welcome to use the building. This seems to have been confirmed during a tour with the media, and articles were published about a skatepark being built on the roof of the new opera in Oslo. One website even refered to the building as the 'opera-skate-complex'.
In fact the use of skateboards and bicycles on the roof of the opera building is forbidden according to signs put up by both the stairs, as well as scattered all over the roof. There are however no signs by the entrance or othervise on the area around the building prohibiting skateboarding.
Update: According to an article in the papers last week, skateboarding is forbidden everywhere on the opera.

No Skatepark on the Opera House
The december issue of Wired Magazine had an article on how the Oslo Opera was really a stealth skatepark, but this is now being denied by both the Opera and the architects from Snøhetta who buildt it. This is however not the first time this claim has been risen.
