Skating with the kids at Slemdal
We decided it was time to pay a visit to Det Gule Huset, and update our spotguide with some new pictures from one of the two only indoor skateparks in Oslo.
Det Gule Huset
Det Gule Huset, wich directly translated means The Yellow House is a recreational offer for youth between 14 and 18. In addition to skateboarding, the skatepark is also open for bladers, and the youth have access to an Internet cafe. The only downside as of writing this, must be that it is only open mondays and tuesdays from six to ten. The skatepark even closes one hour earlier, at nine.
The Skatepark
Det Gule Huset Skatepark is one of two small indoor skateparks in Oslo available for skaters during the winter and rainy days.
The skatepark was rebuilt in 2007 by Phillip Skaug from Skaugs Rampservice. It is small, but the space is well used, and they have also kept the stage as one of the platforms so that it can be used for concerts and events.
The miniramp is very nice and offers a variety of heights and possibilities for lines. It is divided with a spine, and two speedbums. We were also told that the plates were a bit slippery in the beginning, but a rituale of spraying them with leftover soda seems to have done the trick.
At the time of our visit, the bump on the left side from the stage was cracked. Not a big issue, as they are already working on getting it fixed, and it just took one run to get the feel of it.
Blunt or Tail
The discussion was lively after one of the kids finally found his way over the spine, was it a blunt transfer, or is it called a transfer to tail? The kids that were skating there seems like a nice bunch, and we had a fun session skating with them and the staff. Big thanks for letting us come visit!
